Staatliches Museum

Ägyptischer Kunst

The State Museum of Egyptian Art is the only museum of its kind, to specialize in the Art of Ancient Egypt, expressed both through its acquisition activities and in the presentation of the objects: all historical periods are represented by internationally recognized masterpieces. A circuit allows visitors to discover the principles of Ancient Egyptian art, the continuity of its formal language, but also the innovations of each epoch. A particular emphasis is laid on sculpture, namely in the dialogue between portraiture and idealization. The chronological frame extends from Prehistory in the 4th millennium BC into the early Christian Period. Additional areas of interest are the Nubian cultures to the south of Egypt and the Egyptianising statues from Imperial Rome. A diverse education program offers insight into the museum’s collection and the culture of Ancient Egypt. Numerous offers are aimed specifically at children and families.
