The Geologisches Museum München is part of the Bayerische Staatssammlung für Paläontologie und Geologie (Bavarian State Collection for Palaeontology and Geology). The museum exhibitions are devoted to the genesis and dynamics of our planet. They vividly describe the formation of mountains, volcanoes, and sediments. Plate tectonics, mineral resources, building stones as well as the "Rocky History of Bavaria" are demonstrated in rock samples and illustrations.
