Förderkreis Kunstareal München

Art x Culture x Knowledge = a real experience³: Kunstareal München with its outstanding museums, diverse cultural institutions, renowned international colleges and galleries constitutes a quite unparalleled cluster that constantly offers visitors new insights and perspectives. Convinced by the potential of this unique urban space, in 2010 Stiftung Pinakothek der Moderne persuaded 13 patrons associations to join forces as Förderkreis Kunstareal. Under the patronage of HRH Duke Franz of Bavaria the Förderkreis is passionately committed to the following areas:

- Initiating, financing, organizing and realizing Kunstareal festivals – the very first Kunstareal festival already attracted well over 50,000 visitors.

- Financing the Kunstareal Website and ongoing operations.

- Organizing the “New at Kunstareal” series, an annual evening event to foster networking between the Förderkreise.

- Supporting the Kunstareal Coordination Office.

- Cooperating closely with the City of Munich and the State of Bavaria to develop the Kunstareal.

Freundeskreis des Ägyptischen Museums München e.V.

The “Freundeskreis” or Association of Friends was founded in 1976 by friends of the institution to create a forum for potential patrons and friends of Egypt.

more

The “Freundeskreis” or Association of Friends was founded in 1976 by friends of the institution to create a forum for potential patrons and friends of Egypt. Membership figures have for some time held steady at about 900 and the composition gratifyingly by no means corresponds to the usual cliché of elderly museum visitors who have lots of time on their hands – the members include about 100 school pupils and the same number of university students.

The Freundeskreis supports the museum in many ways. Alongside acquisitions, financed from membership fees and donations, it also grants the museum subsidies for its education program for children and young people, for catalogs and exhibitions – this Website was also made possible thanks to the kind support of the Freundeskreis.

Members are offered a distinctive program of varied events. Moreover, each member receives a magazine published specially for the Freundeskreis several times a year.

Many of the events would not be possible without the ‘volunteers’ from the Freundeskreis, as the museum staff is far too small specifically to cover the kind of events called for today – and there are no funds to hire professional personnel. Thanks to the Freundeskreis, the museum has thus long since been able to make a virtue of necessity: In recent years, three international congresses were held without any external staff required at all. This saved both organizers and participants considerable costs, and also spelled very personal and dedicated support. For the members, the opportunity to get to know Egyptologists from all over the world in person is often highly interesting, and creates scope for specialist interests, too.

Freundeskreis members help out at all the main events in the museum, such as the “Open Night”, “Open Day”, the vacation program and the Christmas bazaar. Some of them have become specialists for the Hieroglyphs School, for example, while others are brilliant salesperson staffing the booths. This superb team always welcomes newcomers!

The patrons society for the NS-Dokumentationszentrum was created in spring 2011. Many of the important personalities of Munich’s public sphere were recruited as founding members.

The goal of the association is to support:
- academic research into the history of National Socialism in Munich,
- analysis and confrontation of the root causes of the Nazi dictatorship, as well as its consequences after 1945 and
- historical and political education that makes use of pedagogical strategies to transmit the results of this research.

The association aims to use donations to support the NS-Dokumentationszentrum, which is publicly administered by the city of Munich, and to strengthen memory work in a sustainable way through presentations, conferences, publications and public presentations. Verein der Freunde und Förderer der Glyptothek und der Antikensammlungen München e.V.

Founded in 1971, “Verein zur Förderung der Glyptothek und der Staatlichen Antikensammlungen” supports the institutions at Königsplatz in their efforts to keep the heritage of the ancient world alive.

more

In 1971, a number of Munich personalities got together to give their love of antiquity a platform. They founded the Verein zur Förderung der Glyptothek und der Staatlichen Antikensammlungen e.V. For over 50 years, however, we have not only supported the museums on Königsplatz. The "Glypto-Freunde" - as the association is known for short - have developed into one of the most important cultural associations in Munich. The promotion of the museums is close to our hearts. Important works of art from the collections have been acquired by the association and given to the houses at Königsplatz on permanent loan. A large number of knowledge transfer and youth work projects have been made possible for the museums by the association. Even more important to us, however, is the shared experience of the heritage of antiquity. We do this in a wealth of events in, alongside and outside the museums. Last but not least, we also organize trips for our members, which enjoy a very good reputation beyond the borders of the association.

Founded in 1968 the Friends of the University of Television and Film Munich join friends, alumni and patrons of the Munich Film School who are dedicated to supporting young professional students achieve their main goal: make movies.

The Friends of the University of Television and Film Munich are convinced that only with sufficient support of students in the different departments: directing, writing, producing, and cinematography innovation and progress in filmmaking will be possible. One of the main objective of the Friends of the Munich Film School is to accompany the Munich Film School in their enduring and continuous pursuit to provide students with the most qualified training possible. Consequently the registered association “Förderverein der HFF München” helped finance various films of promising young Film School directors, writers and producers along with supporting the acquisition of technical equipment, the publication of academic literature and professional events at the Film School.

Another successful activity is the Screenwriting Workshop Munich. This programme for advanced studies in screenwriting offers ten carefully selected, talented screenwriters the opportunity to develop a feature film script during a one year course. For more than 25 years the Screenwriting Workshop successfully trained screenwriters for feature film and television in Germany.

With a membership in the association “Förderverein der HFF München” you will join a lively, inspired and innovative community not only at the Munich Film School but also within the wider and creative community of the Kunstareal Munich with its 18 museums, over 40 galleries and six Universities - thanks to the participation in the “Förderkreis Kunstareal.

more

Culture in all its shapes and sizes is an important element of society today. The two develop in parallel. Today, promoting culture is not just the task of the states and local authorities, who are finding their obligation to support culture ever harder, as they often have to shift budgets in favor of other areas for financing. In this regard, the business community needs to assess preserving the opportunities for culture.

In 1992, to mark its 100th anniversary, Deutsche Bank Munich established a “Jubiläumsstiftung der Deutschen Bank zugunsten des Lenbachhauses” endowed with the sum of 750,000 deutschmarks. One year later, with the energetic support of Dr. Soltmann, at the time President of the Chamber of Industry and Commerce of Munich and Upper Bavaria, Dr. Reinhard Wieczorek, Head of the City of Munich Dept. of Labor and Business and Dr. Michael Endres, member of the Board of Deutsche Bank, the “Förderverein Lenbachhaus e.V.” was founded. The initiators considered it an opportunity for Munich-based corporations, and private individuals, to identify strongly with a municipal cultural institute.

The goals and tasks of the foundation and the association are to improve the opportunities for presenting artworks and financially support the expansion of the Städtische Galerie im Lenbachhaus collection. The Förderverein provides grants to assist the realization of exhibitions and the publication of catalogs and monographs. Needless to say, the Förderverein only has charitable goals. All donations are therefore eligible for tax relief.

The Förderverein has made key contributions to the Lenbachhaus collection, and alongside other forms of patronage it provides financial support in expanding the collection. Förderverein Lenbachhaus e.V. was founded in 1993 following the establishment in 1992 of “Jubiläumsstiftung der Deutsche Bank AG zugunsten des Lenbachhauses”. The starting point was to persuade Munich’s citizens and corporations to identify more strongly with Städtische Galerie im Lenbachhaus. The goals and tasks of the foundation and the association are to improve the opportunities for presenting artworks and financially support the expansion of the Städtische Galerie im Lenbachhaus collection. It is committed in particular at present to the innovative use of LED technology for the lighting in the new Lenbachhaus.

The Förderverein collection, which is on permanent loan to Lenbachhaus and enriches its collection, focuses on international contemporary art and artistic works relating to the subject of light. Moreover, Förderverein provides grants to assist the realization of exhibitions and the publication of catalogs and monographs. The special commitment of individual members of Förderverein as regards supporting children is worthy of extra mention. By assuming the costs for special openings, these members have made it possible for school classes to visit the Lenbachhaus outside normal opening hours. Moreover, they have also facilitated the introduction of special education programs for children.

A museum is only vibrant if it finds friends and patrons who feel personally committed to its goals and are ready to make a contribution to expanding the collection.
The association supports the Alte and Neue Pinakothek expanding their collections by acquiring artworks and by supporting both museums in their activities on behalf of visitors and interested parties. Moreover, it regularly hosts guided tours, visits, lectures and on occasion trips. In addition, members and patrons are invited to exhibition private views and to evening and day-time guided tours of the Pinakothek.

Pinakotheks-Verein is a registered charity domiciled in Munich with at present about 400 members and patrons. It was originally founded to support reconstruction of Alte Pinakothek, which had been destroyed during World War II. Once the project was successfully completed, the object stated in the statutes was expended and today embraces promoting the Alte and Neue Pinakothek and their collections. Pinakothek der Moderne is supported by its own associations of friends. We would be delighted should you choose to become a member of Pinakotheks-Verein.

more

Founded in 1994, the Foundation Pinakothek der Moderne developed out of awareness that civic engagement is necessary to give our society new, decisive momentum towards its further development. 13 million euros in donations enabled the construction of the Pinakothek der Moderne. Since then, the foundation, which itself determines how its resources are to be allocated, has particularly supported the collections of the Pinakothek der Moderne in the presentation of art in the galleries and the museum’s communication, education and outreach activities. To this end, the foundation took the initiative in 2009 to raise the public profile of Munich’s Kunstareal. The aim is to facilitate access to the diverse collections located there, to increase their visibility and to support networking between them.
