The Paläontologisches Museum München belongs to the Bayerische Staatssammlung für Paläontologie und Geologie (Bavarian State Collection for Palaeontology and Geology) and is located in a magnificent historicist building. The museum takes its visitors back to the fauna and flora of the geologic past. The museum exhibitions span 3.5 billion years of evolution and show a wide range of spectacular fossils such as the largest dinosaur discovered in Bavaria, the primitive bird Archaeopteryx, a saber-toothed cat, and the prehistoric elephant (proboscidean) from Mühldorf.
